Patrick
Coffey is a songwriter/musician in the Contemporary Christian genera.
He is currently working on producing his 1st album, Come Back, and
hopes to release it in mid to late 2010. “The process of
recording and releasing an album is very slow for me.” Patrick says,
“because, since I own my own studio and don't have a band, I get to be
the sound engineer, guitarist, pianist, and vocalist. It takes a lot of
time”
Patrick began to learn the piano when he
was 6 years
old. For a while, he really had a hard time grasping musical concepts
and note reading, so as a side thing he began to learn songs by ear. He
found that it was very easy for him and came very naturally. “Note
reading is great, and every musician should know how to do it, but
music goes way past that.” Patrick explains, “If you can play
by
ear, you are no longer limited to the imagination of the music writer;
you can add in your own emotion and feeling. You become the writer.”
At that point, Patrick didn't really think much of his ear abilities,
and never even considered being able to mold it into anything useful.
It never occurred to him that the musical ear God had given him could
be useful for anything but playing around and learning fun songs, until
he wrote his 1st song. (9 years old) Patrick says; “It was kind of like
a spark that ignited. I didn't know what I was doing, and I still don't
really, but God kept giving me songs to write, and I kept on writing
them. I've always had a bit of a hard time in school; I'm one of those
B students, except in Literature. I seem to be a lot better at
literature than at any other subject, so naturally, since my strengths
were in writing and music, I combined the two. I was pretty excited
about playing around with this stuff, and began to exercise my skills
by listening to other artists and copying them to the T, then I began
to create my own style.”
Patrick explored many aspects of both
music and
literature. He tried writing books, but since it didn't click, even
though he enjoyed it. He also explored a wide genera of piano music. He
played classical, gospel, rock, pop, jazz, hymns, and random chord
combinations as practice to increase his list of finger moves and
techniques.
As Patrick was so busy copying other artists and learning from them, he
began to gain interest in how the big time records were made. As a side
interest, he began to study equipment brands, types, and audio
recording techniques. After some research, he crudely hooked the Coffey
family's Yamaha Clavinova up to their family computer via USB. “It was
really crude.” He says, “I used the software MIDI controller on the PC,
and recorded WAV files of my performances using a free recording
program. It worked OK, but it was certainly not professional, and my
mixing skills were horrible. None the less, I gained hands-on
experience with audio work, WAV files, performance recording, and
simple mixing. It was a big step, because it got me off of the paper
and out of the books, and into something hands-on.” Patrick's parents
later bought him a Yamaha keyboard, which greatly increased his ability
to mix, and produce good audio. It was a limited set up, but it worked
well, and he gained experience with the mixing, editing, and tweaking
that audio work takes. Then something happened that really rocked his
work. One of his sisters accidentally blew the sound card in the family
computer by blasting large amounts of audio into the input. It was a
total accident, but it put a screeching halt to his serious hobby. A
month later, while shopping in a thrift store, Patrick discovered and
bought (for $20) an older Mac tower. It was in working condition, and
Patrick's computer professional Dad helped him get it in operating
condition (for a low price). Then Patrick began to make more serious
recordings and much better quality sound. A few weeks later, he bought
an audio interface off of Cragslist, and as a part of the bargain, he
got a recording program. It was greatly superior to the free program he
used previously, so he switched to it, and his audio took a
professional turn. Patrick was able to obtain the rest of the
necessary equipment at God-given low prices, and began to record his
audio with the intention of releasing an Album. He worked on a
prototype of it, and learned how to use the complicated software.
Another faith-tester arose when his Mac's HDD crashed. He was able to
purchase another fairly new Mac for a good price, and this new computer
has enabled him to do much more than the last. Currently, he is still
learning how to be an amateur audio engineer, and is working on
releasing his 1st album. Patrick says; “I don't know where
I'm
going with this, I'm just trying to follow God lead. He's in control,
I'm not. I'm simply taking the songs He's given me to write, and giving
them to ya'll.”
Before
we know Christ, we all are wretched siners. We are chained to a burden
that we cannot bear, condemned by a fine that we cannot pay. Our sin
and guilt allow us no joy or peace, and Satan gleefully watches as we
wait in our dark cells for the day of judgement when we will be sent to
hell for eternity. There is only one Hope for us, and that Hope is
Jesus Christ. By the power of His Blood we are set free from the burden
of our sins. When we repent and put our trust in the Savior, we are set
free, and we turn from a path of everlasting darknes and walk into a
new everlasting life. This very concept, the Gospel of Jeus Christ, is
the foundation of our Christian faith and our walk with God.
Verse 1
I was in a cell
On the way to hell
My sinfulness had chained me in this place
I had gone astray
And had a price to pay
For walking down the path of sinfulness
Chorus
At Calvary
We are set free
And the burden of our sin is cast away
And at that tree
We all can see
That the blood of Jesus sets the captive free
At Calvary
Verse 2
He came suddenly
And set me free
He cut the cords that bound me to my sin
With perfect love
The God above
Sent His Son to give me liberty
Chorus
Bridge
I once lost but now I'm found, I once was blind but now I see
He took my death and gave me life, He lived and died to set me free
I once was in the darkest night, devoid of truth and Godly light
But though wrong seems more than right, He has not lost, He's won the
fight
Chorus
When
I
look through a Christian's life, and specifically my own life, I can
see adversities; things that are sad, stirring, and unpleasant to go
through. But I can always see how God works His purpose in me during
those rough times. The amazing thing is that He never left me when I
was going through a storm, and He never will. He puts us through hard
times to work His will in us and to refine us, but He is always with us
and He will never let us go. We are His children and He cares for us,
He is our shepherd and when we go through the valley of the shadow of
death, He right by our side. Psalm 23:1 -
4 1The LORD is
my shepherd;
I shall not want. 2He maketh
me to lie down
in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. 3He
restoreth my soul: he
leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. 4Yea, though
I walk
through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for
thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Verse 1
The waves in this storm
Are not the ones tossed up by the wind
The waves in this storm
Tear my heart in ways that I can't mend
But then I hear the voice of God through the pouring rain,
I see a hand reach through the sky and help me up again
Chorus
God is with me in this gale,
He holds my body, weak and frail
And guides my steps, leading me to His arms.
I struggle as the waves fall down,
The waters crash and the wind blows strong,
But I know that God is with me, every step of the way.
Verse 2
The Lightning strikes my heart,
And throws me to the ground, calling your name.
I know You see me fall; I raise my hands and cry for You again
But I see Your hand come down, and touch my heart and heal me,
Then You grasp my hand with Yours and pull me to my feet
Chorus
I
wrote this tune awhile back. However, the lyrics that I had written
didn't seem to fit, so I came up with a new set, which turned into
"Come Back To Christ".
When I look into Christendom, I see many different of people. I see
people who love God and get good fruit, and I see those who seem to
love God and get bad fruit. I also have observed those who seem to have
no love for God, get bad fruit, but consistently refer to themselves as
Christians because they go to church on Christmas or do some other
religious act. It seems confusing, but Jesus makes things very clear in
Matthew 7:14 - 20. He says: "you will know them by their fruits." You
can put on a fake face and a pretend love for God, but it is impossible
to have good fruit when you are bearing bad fruit. In the church today,
the divorce rate is high, many are willing to kill their children
(abortion), lie, steal, blaspheme God's name, and put their trust in
their money. These people sadden me greatly, because they believe they
are saved, Bible-believing Christians, but they really are not saved
and are walking the wide way, the way that leads to eternal life in
Hell. Regardless of this fact, we should never shun or condemn these
people, it should be our goal to love them like Christ and present His
Gospel to them. Matthew 7:14
– 23 13Enter ye
in at the
strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth
to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 14Because
strait is the
gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be
that find it. 15Beware of
false
prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are
ravening wolves. 16Ye shall
know them by
their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? 17Even so
every good tree
bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. 18A good
tree cannot
bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good
fruit. 19Every tree
that
bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. 20Wherefore
by their
fruits ye shall know them. 21Not every
one that
saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but
he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22Many will
say to me in
that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy
name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23And then
will I profess
unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
Verse 1
Your coals are no longer on fire
Your heart is as cold as a stone
Your wandering desires have made a twisted cross
And the life that you lead is misleadin
Chorus
Come back to Christ,
Bow before His mighty throne.
You don't care about God's ways,
and your love for Him is fake,
'Cause you’re not following Him.
Verse 2
A child is on the way, and you’re worried
You want to keep working your shift
You wrestle with ideas, and then you stop a beating heart,
And at the same time, proclaim that God saved you
Chorus
Bridge
Church of Christ,
Get up and fight,
You’re not a slave to sin
If you love sin,
And won't do right,
You're not in Truth,
You're still in the darkness
Chorus
Without
God, we are nothing. He made us, and without Him we cannot exist. He is
our life, strength, and hope. Without Him we would not be alive, and
without His salvation we would be doomed to hell. Without His guidance
we would be wandering specks of dust blowing in the wind. Without God,
we are nothing. With God we have life, truth, hope, and strength to do
His will. John 1:3 - 4
3Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that
has been made. 4In him was life, and that life was the light of men
Verse
1 I am a vapor, a speck of trodden sand
I struggle, grow weary, so helpless I am!
Unguided, divided, I'm coming undone
I'm aimlessly fighting, but I've never won
Chorus
In Your Salvation I find meaning
And my heart of stone becomes a heart of clay
And the Potter now can form me
I can see beyond the night, into the day,
Lord, I am Yours
Verse 2
With shaping and molding, Your guiding my life
I'm strengthened, and now I have faith without sight
I'm pressing towards Heaven, the city of light
Because of Your mercy, I'm fighting the fight
Chorus
I
was
dreaming, when I heard this song in the dream. The words were there and
everything, I almost did not write it because I thought it might have
been another artist's song that I heard a long time ago, but had
forgotten about it and was just beginning to remember. But then I did
go ahead and write/record what I heard in the dream.
This is the newest song on this record, and it has not had a lot of
time to mature, but I think that it makes an important point. When we
submit ourselves to God and are willing to follow Him, He can use us.
When we are concentrated on our own ways, our own goals, our own life,
and our own pleasure, we are trying to do things our way, and not God’s
way. We should submit ourselves to the will of God, no matter what. It
is amazing what God can do with anyone who is willing to let Him be
their king. In Samuel 3, we read about how Samuel learned how to hear
from God and obey Him at an early age. God used Samuel in great ways
throughout his whole life because he was submitted to God's will and
was ready and willing to do whatever God asked him to. 1 Samuel 3:1
– 10 1 The boy
Samuel
ministered before the LORD under Eli. In those days the word of the
LORD was rare; there were not many visions. 2 One night
Eli, whose
eyes were becoming so weak that he could barely see, was lying down in
his usual place. 3 The lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was
lying down in the temple [ of the LORD, where the ark of God was. 4
Then the LORD called Samuel. ? Samuel answered, "Here I am." 5 And he
ran to Eli and said, "Here I am; you called me." ? But Eli said, "I did
not call; go back and lie down." So he went and lay down. 6 Again the
LORD called,
"Samuel!" And Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, "Here I am; you
called me." "My son," Eli said, "I did not call; go back and
lie
down." 7 Now Samuel
did not yet
know the LORD : The word of the LORD had not yet been revealed to him. 8 The LORD
called Samuel
a third time, and Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, "Here I am;
you called me." Then Eli realized that the LORD was calling
the
boy. 9 So Eli told Samuel, "Go and lie down, and if he calls you, say,
'Speak, LORD, for your servant is listening.' " So Samuel went and lay
down in his place. 10 The LORD
came and
stood there, calling as at the other times, "Samuel! Samuel!"
Then Samuel said, "Speak, for your servant is listening."
Verse 1
In the night, I hear a voice,
Still and small, it ushers me
Through the calm and restful night,
It clearly calls my name
Chorus
Here am I Lord, send me
You have saved me from the follies of my sin
Here am I Lord, I will go,
You have bought me for a price that none can know,
Send me.
Verse
Through the storms and howling wind,
I will calmly do His work
Though the trials and struggles never cease,
I will serve Him day and night
Chorus
Bridge
Here I am Lord,
I will go Lord,
I will serve You all my days
Here I am Lord,
I will follow
I am here, I live to give You praise
Chorus
There
are many people in the world who don't know God. Some have never heard
of Him, some have and don't believe, and others heard the truth and
believed. The ones who put their trust in God and have repented their
sins need to be spreading the news to the entire world. Before Jesus
left the earth, He told His disciples to spread the news; if we are to
be His disciples, we have to spread the news to, and I have not always
been good at that. We have to realize that if a servant of God had not
told us of the Gospel, we would be in the same place as all the sinners
we see walking the streets. It is only by God's grace and mercy that we
are alive in Him, and it is very important that we tell others about
that abundant grace and mercy. Matthew
28:16 - 20
16Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where
Jesus had told them to go.
17When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted.
18Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on
earth has been given to me
. 19Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in
the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
20and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely
I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
Verse 1
Lord Jesus, give me Your love for the lost
Help me see the people the way You do
Give me love for the unsaved that need the News
I want to see them in the light of Your love
Chorus
Give me love for the lost,
They need to know of You
I know someday you will judge all on earth
and the slaves to sin will go to hell
Verse 2
Strengthen me, set my heart on fire for You
Help me be a faithful servant to You
Guide my heart; I want it to do Your will
I want to tell the people of the light of Your truth
Chorus
God
is
in complete control of the universe. He is almighty, and He never
loses. He created time, and He has decided when it will end. He
orchestrates everything in the universe, and nothing worries Him.
Nothing set up against Him shall ever stand, and His enemies never win.
He is God and He as always and will always reign.
Revelations
11:16 - 17 16And the
four and twenty
elders, which sat before God on their seats, fell upon their faces, and
worshipped God, 17Saying,
We give
thee thanks, O LORD God Almighty, which art, and wast, and art to come;
because thou hast taken to thee thy great power, and hast reigned. 18And
the nations
were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they
should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants
the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and
great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth.
Verse 1
From the beginning of the world,
Until this present time of day,
You have been king of all creating,
Your Majesty, You reign.
From the seat of Your throne on high,
You watch Your children close.
You are the one who is, and is to come,
Your children now proclaim...
Chorus
That you reign
We bow before your throne
'Cause you reign
We praise You Lord because You are God
And You never will change,
You reign
We tell the world about your name
We praise you Lord because you are God,
And you never will change
Verse 2
With no beginning and no end,
You will always be my King
You sent Your Son to save me from my sin,
May your praises always ring
From the seat of Your throne on high,
You control the universe
You are the One who is and is to come
Your children now proclaim
Chorus
This
song poses a question. What is Christ Like love? When we get into a
relationship with a brother or sister in Christ, and we see them
struggling with something, what will we do? Look down on them, or pray
for them? Will we envy others of their blessings, or will we be content
with what God gives us? Will we hold grudges, or will we forgive? Will
we be angered easily, or will we be long suffering and kind? When a
brother is sinning, will we give them truth or will we let them walk in
darkness? Will we work out our relationships in love, or will we do
things out of spite? How do we have loving, caring relationships with
others, even those that hate us?
1 Corinthians 13 tells what Christ like love is. Love is patient and
kind, it is not easily angered, it is humble, it is polite, it is
selfless, it is truthful, it is protective, it is trusting, it is
hoping, and it is persevering. This is how we should treat everyone,
even our enemies. (See Matthew 5:38 - 48) 1
Corinthians 13:4 - 7 4Love is
patient, love is
kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It is not
rude, it is
not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of
wrongs. 6Love does
not delight in
evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always
protects,
always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Matthew 5:38
- 48 38 Ye have
heard that it
hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: 39 But I say
unto you,
That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right
cheek, turn to him the other also. 40 And if
any man will
sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloke
also. 41 And
whosoever shall
compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain. 42 Give to him that asketh
thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away. 43 Ye
have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and
hate thine enemy. 44 But I say
unto you,
Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate
you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; 45 That ye
may be the
children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to
rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on
the unjust. 46 For if ye
love them
which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same? 47 And if ye
salute your
brethren only, what do ye more than others ? do not even the publicans
so? 48 Be ye
therefore
perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.
Verse 1
Love is kind and patientit cannot be is not destroyed
Love is not self serving, is not annoyed
Love is not a play-thing, it doesn't come and go
Love will spread the Gospel so all will know
Verse 2
Love is not emotions, it is not always fun
But love will always stay with you, it never runs
Love is never fearful, it always tells the truth
Through Jesus Christ the love of God was shown to you
Chorus
Love is not a word that we speak
It is not a feeling that passes away
It's a walk that leads you to life
Love is given by Christ alone
True love never fades away
Verse 3
Love is never arrogant, humility is love
It comes with faith and hope from the God above
Love will spread the Gospel so all will know
Love is enduring promises, in Christ we know that...
Chorus
This
is the oldest song I have on this Album. I am so thankful to God for
sending His Son to shed His blood so we can be redeemed! Praise the
Lord that we all can have eternal life with Him! Thank God that He sent
His son to shed His blood on the cross so that we could be justified by
His grace! Romans 3:25
- 25 24Being
justified freely
by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: 25Whom God
hath set forth
to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his
righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the
forbearance of God
Verse 1
It's by Your blood that I stand here now
Free from all the prisons of worldliness
It's by Your blood that I am no longer
Apart of earthly kingdoms
And I believe...
Chorus
...That you are God
The King of all
The Greatest Ruler,
Creator of This World
And You are Lord
Of All Creation
Your children bow down
And praise you for your grace
Verse 2
It's by Your blood that I have not fallen
Into pits of darkness, and lost all hope
It's by Your blood that I have compassion
For sinners all around me,
They need to hear...
Chorus
I
wrote this as a salvation/sanctification story. It tells how I was once
a sinner, and how God sent His son to save me from my sin, giving me
everlasting life. We have all fallen short of the glory of God and are
in need of His saving grace. Mark 16:16 16 He that
believes and
is baptized shall be saved; but he that believes not shall be damned.
Verse 1
My goodness is filthy rags,
Compared to You, Lord
Without salvation, I'm going to hell.
I've broken your laws and not
Followed your ways, oh Lord
With no forgiveness, I'm going to burn
Chorus
You sent Your Son
to die for me
His blood was shed
To pay my fine
Your only Son
Now by your side
Has made a way
For us to be with you
Verse 2
Now I'm a child of Yours,
Waiting on You, Lord
Without Your guidance, I wander away
My whole life depends on You
I know that You'll see me through
I thank You Lord for all You have done
Chorus
Once
I
was thinking about worship (while washing the dishes, I might add), and
I came upon a few thoughts that I decided to write about.
If we worship God with our mouths but do not truly live for God, our
audible worship means nothing. Worship goes beyond singing songs, our
lives are worship to God. Living in truth, and walking on the narrow
way is true and pure worship and it brings glory to God. What we do in
worship service at church proclaims God's glory, but if we don't truly
live for God's glory, we might as well never sing in worship service
again, because the worship is not truly from the heart, it's only from
the vocal chords. Our lives speak volumes above our singing; we must
bring God glory with the way we live before we attempt to worship in
song. Matthew 15:8
- 9 8This people
draweth nigh
unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their
heart is far from me. 9But in vain
they do
worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.
Verse 1
The praises that I bring
Are not the songs I sing,
But It’s the life I live
To glorify your, Lord.
May the words I sing to you
Be in my life so true
That I will live to glorify your name.
Chorus
Worship does not mean to bring you songs,
It means to glorify your name in the manner that we live,
Lord may we all strive to bring you praise
By letting the voice of our songs raise.
Verse 2
The worship that you hear
Doesn’t mean I’m near
To God the way
That everyone should be.
Please let my life speak,
And tell you what I seek,
I seek to be a man after God’s heart.
